me vs neurotypicals
i'm literally just writing this because i came across an indie website made by someone who described themselves as weird but "not weird like a catgirl who'd hiss at you on the bus weird" (i'm paraphrasing but they specifically mentioned catgirls). 1: what's wrong with being weird like autistic or otherwise neurodivergent people? 2: you're on the indie web. most of the people you're gonna talk to are probably catgirls. as i type this, i'm in the middle of making dedicated shrines for my major special interests and hyperfixations.
being ableist not only alienates you from a lot of people on the indie web, but also it's such a poser thing to do. if you're truly "weird" then you wouldn't mind being lumped in with people you deem weirder than you. you'd want to have solidarity with other weird people, you'd want to care about and connect with other weird people.
having autism and adhd has shifted my perspective quite a bit, but not as much as my experience with ocd. ocd is so stigmatized to the point where people still think it's the perfectionist disorder and not a disorder based in fear and fallacies. ocd doesn't make me a perfectionist, but trying to compensate and cope with it does. i happen to be really particular about being on time, carrying everything i could possibly need, being prepared for unlikely scenarios because i'd be a nervous wreck if i didn't. i'm super anal about safety and health because i'm paranoid about getting life-threatening injuries and illnesses (i had ocd before covid, but it wasn't obvious before covid. now i'm paranoid about contracting it so i wear a mask 24/7 and avoid public gatherings).
trans-wise, i've been to attached to xenogenders for a while but i couldn't articulate it well until 2021. being weird is good for the soul, especially when its in a trans way. i was honestly really unhappy with being a binary trans man because of the expectation of trying to pass as cis. transmedicalism and other forms of queer infighting really made it clear to me that trying to fit into the binary wasn't actually what i wanted, it was just an idea sold to me by gatekeepers that i had to dedicate time to unlearning.
anyways weird people are vital to the indie web and if you don't like it, too bad :)
